RICHARDS said he would certainly be in the field as a candidate for the legislature. ~Col. A. A. MURPHY, of Atlanta, spent a day or two here last week, and went on a bird hunt with Col. MIDDLEBROOK and County Commissioner PERRY. ~Dr. P. WILLSON has many friends in Newton County who are anxious for him to enter the race for the legislature, this is especially true in his own district. ~Mr. Frank C. DAVIS, candidate for commissioner of agriculture, is receiving many nice notices from the papers in this section. In the meantime Col. NESBITT is sending out little packages of seed to his special friends. ~Hon. Boykin WRIGHT is a candidate for re-election as solicitor-general of the Augusta circuit. The Hon. Billy DAVIS, of Burke County, will oppose him. Mr. DAVIS was a member of the last two legislatures. ~Col. Wm. A. BROUGHTON, of Madison, attended the speaking here Saturday. So did State Treasurer Robt. U. HARDEMAN. It is whispered around that Brother William would like to have Uncle Robert’s place, as State Treasurer. ~Hon. Emmett WOMACK has accepted a position as assistant division counsel for the Richmond & Danville railroad, with headquarters in Atlanta. He will resign the Solicitor-Generalship of the Flint Circuit, to take effect April 1st. ~Livingston’s speech at Covington captured the state. His political stock is rated higher now than it has ever been. His enthusiastic reception by the people of his home county must have been very gratifying to him. Livingston has saved the state from the third party. Macon Telegraph. ~Little Madge WRIGHT, of Elberton, is with her grandmother, Mrs. Franklin WRIGHT, who is visiting her daughter, Mrs. CHESTNUT, in Savannah. At a recent entertainment there Miss Madge captivated the audience by her exquisite rendition of “Dolly and I.” She is gifted in elocution and charms all who hear her. ~Col. E. C. MACHEN; Acting Alliance President WILLSON, of Americus; Hon. E. T. ZACHRY, of Henry County; Hon. Sanders WALKER, of Monroe; Hon. Boykin WRIGHT, of Augusta; Hon. Mark HARDIN, of Bartow; and a score or more of other prominent Georgians spent Saturday here and listened to the speech of Hon. L. F. LIVNGSTON. ~The course of Congressman LIVINGSTON in Washington and St. Louis in standing up squarely for the Democratic party and trying to keep Alliance men from falling into the error of going off after the Third party, deserves commendation. President LIVINGSTON is proving himself the true friend of the Alliance. Augusta Chronicle. TOWN AND COUNTY ~The name of Col. Chas. T. ZACHRY, of Henry County, is suggested for Congress from the sixth district. Col. ZACHRY was a leading member of the last senate. ~Election of School Commissioners: There will be a written examination of applicants for the office of County School Commissioners, at the Court School Commissioners, at the Court House in Covington, on Thursday, March 10th, 1892 at 9 A. M. The Law directs that the election of County School Commissioners shall occur on the same day after the examination. H. H. STONE, President Board of Education Newton County. Oxford, Ga., Feb. 23rd 1892. ~Messrs. W. L. QUINN and Wm. SOCKWELL will soon have their machine shop completed and be ready for all kind of work. They will make a specialty of engine and gin work and will repair any and all kinds of machinery. They will have a plaining mill in connection with their shops and possibly a foundry. Both are master workmen, just from the best and largest machine shops in Atlanta and will guarantee satisfaction. Their shops will be on one of the O’Kelly lots, between town and the depot.
