Winn JOINER will preach at the Presbyterian Church in Covington next Sunday night, at 3 o’clock. ~Judge E. F. EDWARDS declares that he is now an active candidate for State Senator from this district. ~Mr. Edward B. GIBBS, wife and daughter, of Social Circle, spent Sunday here as the guests of Mrs. B. M. HOLLIS. ~Miss Maggie ALLEN left on a three months visit to her brother in Louisiana, on Tuesday last. ~Mrs. Capt. J. M. PACE will visit her daughter, Mrs. Dr. OWSLEY, in Chicago, sometime in June. ~Miss Sadie FOWLER, one of our popular beauties, has been spending part of this week in Madison. ~Mr. A. H. S. DAVIS picked up a thirteen pound carp in Yellow River, with a cast net, at Porterdale, last week. ~Rev. Dr. BELL, of Texas, delegate to the Baptist Convention, spent a day or two recently in Covington, as the guest of Mr. W. B. LEE. ~Mr. H. M. SPEER, wife and little daughter, Mary have been spending this week with Hon. T. J. SPEER and family, in Brick Store district. ~In the college department of the Girls’ High School, in Senior Class, Miss Jackie STEPHENSON was awarded First Honor, and Miss Olive SWANN given Second Honor. ~Rev. W. A. CANDLER will preach a Temperance sermon in the Methodist Church, in Covington, on Sunday morning next, at 11 o’clock, May 22. Everybody invited. ~Rev. R. D. PERRY left for the Presbyterian General Assembly at Hot Springs, Ark., on Tuesday, and will be absent from here until about June 1st. ~Mr. SHIELDS, one of our oldest and best citizens, is in very feeble health. He is the father of Mr. T. J. SHIELDS. Hope he will soon be blessed with health and strength again. ~Col. R. W. BAGBY spent two or three days of last week in Charleston, S. C. He is well pleased with this city by the sea and has already made an offer on a piece of valuable property there.
