E. Banks have been on a visit to Macon this week. ~Wilkins Willingham and Walter Corley are perhaps today two of the happiest young men in Georgia. ~Dr. W. W. Evans accompanied the remains of Mrs. Ellison to Portsmouth, Va., remained to the funeral and returned Sunday. ~Miss Lena Stanton, of Warrenton, a very attractive and charming beauty, has been on a visit here as the guest of Mrs. J. T. Corley, Jr. ~Mrs. S. W. Hawkins is visiting relatives in Oglethorpe County this week and is no doubt “having a hog killing time.” ~Mrs. Sadie B. Gray and Mrs. D. S. Parks, of Brick Store district, have moved to town and are occupying part of Mrs. C. D. Pace’s residence. We welcome these gentle Christian ladies to our community and trust they will be satisfied and contented in their new home. ~During the alarm of fire Saturday night Judge J. D. Lester received slight bruises on the head by the fall of a ladder, while Marshal Horton got his face slightly disfigured by a fall in running to the place. No other accidents happened, although the night was dark and stormy. ~Mr. W. R. Powell can repair and put in order fine guns. He made a new spring for our hammerless ‘fuzee’ the other day, that works nicely. He can also mend your watches, clocks and all kinds of machinery, and his prices are very reasonable. He can be found at J. S. Peek’s popular furniture establishment. ~Mr. D. C. Fitch has been elected general manager of the compress company, with Col. J. W. Anderson as Secretary and Treasurer, Messrs. J. F. Henderson, W. C. Clark and J. W. Anderson are authorized to procure certificates of stock to be issued to stock holders. Middlebrook lead the score with Edward Heard and Horton next, while the other three made a tie. “Bones,” an ugly mangy seven months old pup, belonging to Middlebrook, set and found birds like an old dog. All returned well pleased with the day’s sport. ~We regret to learn that our friend, Mr. Edward P. Carr, will withdraw from the popular firm of Messrs. Swann, Stewart & Co., about the first of December and make his home in the State of Tennessee. Mr. Carr is a gentleman of true worth and high integrity, he is thoroughly educated in the art of honest business principles, is energetic, benevolent and generous. May heaven’s choicest blessings be and remain with him wherever his footsteps may chance to roam. ~A delightful sociable and oyster supper came off at the new residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Wells, on depot street, Thursday evening last. There were ten couples present, besides a few other invited guests. It would be difficult to get ten more bewitching and charming beauties together than were those present, while the young men were full of life and made up in gallantry what they lacked in good looks. It was an occasion of solid enjoyment and exquisite pleasure, especially to those “Who love to court in winter, Because the old folks dread The cold and stormy weather And hurry off to bed.
