N. Bradshaw and wife, of Madison, Florida, are visiting dear ones here. Both are looking well. ~Miss Ida Edwards has been quite sick for several days. We trust that she may soon be well again. ~Tax Collector Davis and family are at their Covington home, after a months visit to relatives in Henry County. ~Messrs. A. S. Franklin and O. S. Porter represented Newton County at the State Alliance meeting in Macon this week. ~Henry W. Grady is a Georgian and can run for Congress or any other office and will always have a large constituency and an enthusiastic following. ~Miss May Mitchell, of Montgomery, Ala., an accomplished and fascinating young lady, is visiting Covington, as the guest of Mrs. Edward Heard. ~Mrs. Albert H. Ellington and two children, of Jackson, Tenn., are visiting relatives in Newton County, as the guests of Mrs. Easly, of Midway, and Mr. S. R. Ellington and family of Gum Creek district. ~Mr. Patillo, an old soldier and a deserving man, is waiting here to learn if he can get a place in the Texas Soldiers Home. He is dependent, an object of charity, and should not and will not be allowed to suffer while in our community. ~Rev. Dr. J. M. Brittain preached his farewell sermon at the Baptist Church Sunday night. For over thirteen years he has labored hard and faithfully as a minister of the gospel in Covington. As a citizen and a minister he is beloved and honored by all our people. His sermon was eloquent and tender. It breathed a spirit of love in keeping with the life and character of the speaker. On or about Sept. 1st he goes to Augusta and will carry with him the prayers of all our people.
