C. ADAMS and family of Winton, were here Sunday. ~Mrs. JAMES LOYD, and daughter of Newborn, were visiting relatives here one day last week. ~Elder J. L. HAYS, and wife visited their son in Jasper Sunday. ~Prof. H. B. ADAMS, wife and Miss Maggie Rogers, of Winton, visited relatives here Saturday and Sunday. ~Prof. G. C. ADAMS, of Pine Grove was here Sunday. FROM STARRSVILLE ~Mr. LOVE HARWELL, of Newborn, spent last Tuesday night here as the guest of his sister, Mrs. Dr. E. W. RAGSDALE. ~Rev. J. J. ANSLEY preached a forcible sermon to a large and appreciative audience last Sunday. ~Mr. and Mrs. C. U. SKINNER spent last Wednesday at Hayston as Mrs. C. L. HARWELL’S guest. ~Miss GLADNEY THOMPSON spent from Friday afternoon until Sunday with her parents at Rocky Plains. ~Mrs. MAUDE PITTS, of Newborn, was the guest of Mrs. J. L. SKINNER last Sunday. ~Miss SUSIE BIGGERS returned home last Saturday from a pleasant stay with her sister, Mrs. W. H. GAITHER, of Newton Factory. ~Mrs. J. J. ANSLEY and beautiful daughter, RUTH, of Newborn, were the guests of Mrs. C. A. BANKS last Saturday night. ~Miss WILLIE COOK, a charming young lady, of Siloam, after an extended visit to he grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. S. M. JOHNSON, has gone to Oxford, where she will visit Misses LIZZIE and NITA COOK. ~Col. A. L. FRANKLIN and wife, returned to Athens Monday, after a pleasant visit of a month to parents here. During Col. FRANKLIN’S visit here, he was elected City Attorney of Brunswick, where he lived for several years. This was very complimentary to him, as he had made no application for the position. They will move to Brunswick this week. FROM HAYSTON ~Miss ANNA MARKS, of Reece, is visiting relatives and friends here. ~Capt. G. D. HEARD, and wife of Covington, spent one day last week with their daughter, Mrs. C. L. HARWELL. ~Miss LEMMA COWAN, has returned to her home in Doraville, after an extended visit with relatives and friends here. Come again Miss LEMMA we are glad to have you visit us. ~Mr. and Mrs. J. C. WYNN spent several days recently in Shady Dale. ~Messrs. HENRY WRIGHT and CRAWFORD HARWELL made a flying trip to Newborn last Sunday. Feminine attraction I suppose. ~Miss CARRIE OZBURN, and Mr. GRIFFIN MCCART, of Le Guinn, visited relatives here Sunday. ~Rev. J. J. ANSLEY, of Newborn, dined with Mr. W. E. HARWELL’S family last Sunday. ~Miss EDNA LUNSFORD, from Jasper County is visiting relatives here this week. ~The entertainment of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. WYNN’S last Friday night, was enjoyed by all present. ~Miss MAUDE PITTS, of Newborn, visited her sister, Mrs. W. M. HARWELL, several days last week. ~Mr. TILLARD AIKEN, of LeGuinn was visiting the fair sex Sunday. ~Mr. FRANK HORON, of LeGuinn, was here Sunday. FROM MANSFIELD ~When ANDERSON and PHILLIPS get their telephone completed, Mansfield will have connections with both Covington and Monticello. This will be a great convenience for our people. ~Miss EMMA LEWIS, the popular teacher at Leakton, spent Saturday and Sunday with parents in Covington. ~Mr. THADEUS WILLSON, of Newborn spent Sunday afternoon very pleasantly with friends there. ~Mr. W H. CRENSHAW and wife of Monroe, visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. LAZENBY, Saturday and Sunday. ~Master WEIGHMAN ARMSTRONG conducted the Young People’s prayer service most credibly, at Carmel, Sunday evening last. ~Mr. CALVIN HITCHCOCK and sister, Miss MARY, of Winton, visited her Sunday. Miss MARY will spend this week with relatives in our community. ~Mr. WILLIAM BUCHANAN, one of our most industrious young men left a few days ago for Atlanta, where he will be engaged in business in the future. FROM KINGS ~Miss LILLIE KING spent last week with Miss BERLE SULLIVAN, at Pace. ~Mr. E. R. CORRY made a business trip to Greene County last Saturday. ~Prof. R. F. POWELL, our popular and efficient teacher, spent Saturday in Atlanta. ~Miss DELLA DOWNS, one of our most popular young ladies, returned home Saturday form Dixie, where she has been visiting friends and relatives. ~Miss MATTIE GIBSON, a cultured young lady of Spalding County, who has been visiting her brother, Dr. J. T. GIBSON, for some time, returned home last week. ~Misses TINIE and BELLE GARDNER, who are teaching school in Rockdale County spent Saturday and Sunday at home. ~On Wednesday nigh last our prayer meeting was re-organized with quite a large attendance. Prof. R. F. POWELL gave an interesting and instructive talk. Mr. J. A. RAMSEY will lead the next service. Let every body come out and help make the meeting a success as well as a blessing. FROM ALMON ~Miss LIZZIE SHERWOOD is on an extended visit to friends and relatives in Atlanta. ~Mr. T. D. STONE and wife, of Oxford, spent Sunday with their daughter, Mrs. HENRY DAVIS. ~Mr. JOHN MCCART, who has been ill for sometimes is improving under the skillful treatment of Dr. J. C. CLARK, of Covington. ~Mrs. CHARLES SHERWOOD, of Porterdale, spent a few days of last week with her parents here. ~Miss BESSIE CAMPBELL, of, Newborn is the charming guest of Miss LIZZIE TURNER. ~Miss NANNIE ROSE THOMAS, a beautiful and accomplished young lady of Oxford, spent several days last week with her aunt Mrs. E. A. GRAY. ~Mrs. G. W. HAWKINS, who has been quite indisposed for several weeks is thought to be much better. She has been greatly missed by the Sunday School at the Methodist Church, where she is the efficient teacher of the infant class. ~Mrs. C. W. STONE entertained a few friends at a sociable Friday evening. All present seemed to enjoy the occasion immensely. ~Mr. and Mrs. L. M. SHERWOOD, spent Thursday with relatives in Oxford. ~A song service was held at the residence of Mr. M. A. BENTLEY, Sunday evening. ~Mrs. J. M. HOLDER, who has been quite sick for some days, we are pleased to note is convalescent. ~Mr. GUS DAVIS a student of Emory College preached to a full house here at the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon, on the subject of prayer. It was a noble effort, and he produced a lasting impression. ~Mr. W. S. MARBUT has purchased 50 acres of land from Mr. E. A. GRAY. He has under construction a neat tenant house, and we understand he will erect a beautiful dwelling, and a good store building where he will continue his mercantile business. FROM PINE GROVE ~Elder J. F. ALMAND was absent from his appointment here on Saturday and Sunday. Elder CURTIS filled the pulpit in his place, very interestingly. ~Mr. EUGENE SPEER, now of Covington, gladdened many of his friends by his presence among part of last week. Now, EUGENE, we feel sure that we speak her sentiments by saying “ I am sorry I happened not be there” for your comfort. ~The slow fever that has prevailed in our vicinity since September has claimed Mr. HOMER PATRICK as its last victim, but we sincerely hope he will soon out- battle this contending enemy. ~Mr. JAMES T. SPEER, who teaches at Concord, in Jasper County, was with his parents and friends here from Friday until Sunday. CHICK, who attends school at Emory College, also came down and they, together, made it very pleasant. We are glad to welcome back the absent ones, always and often. ~Messer’s. J. W. and CAPERS ROBERTSON have gone to Barnesville for a few days, on business. ~Miss LIZZIE MONTGOMERY and Miss HURST, of Social Circle, attended services at Shoal Creek Saturday and Sunday.
