Stewart, Oxford, Ga. ~The young lady pupils and teachers boarding at Capt Haygood’s enjoyed a literary dinner one day last week. Each course was elegantly served. ~Messrs. R. L. Mobley & Co., are selling goods very low at their store. Call and examine their stock and prices, as these goods are being sold right along. See advertisement. ~Bailiff Rufus Cruse was appointed to look after the street lamps and keep them “trimmed and burning” at night. We say unto Rufus, old boy, “Let your light shine,” but shut off the valve very early in the morning. ~A party of Ohio capitalists have recently visited Jasper County with a view of investing in lands. Let our Western friends come to Newton County and investigate the advantages to be found within our borders. ~Mr. James P. Simms will handle the famous Kennesaw Guano again this year, and is now ready to fill all orders. He keeps his goods stored in the Alliance Warehouse, and will sell very reasonable. Call on him and buy this most excellent fertilizer. ~Services will be held at the Presbyterian Church, in Covington, on the 2nd and 4th Sundays. Next Sunday, Feb. 8, service may be expected. The Pastor, Rev. Mr. McMeen, will preach in the morning on the subject “The Glorious Church,” at night his subject will be “What Constitutes a Man a Christian Man?” ~Let the farmers of Newton and adjoining counties read the advertisement of Mr. James T. Cook, who is now manufacturing the “Newton High Grade Guano” at the machine shops, near the depot. This is a strictly first class Guano in every respect and is being sold very low.
