Dr. J. M. Brittain preached a powerful Thanksgiving sermon at the Baptist Church Thursday. ~Mrs. Joseph Sockwell, of this county, spent several days recently with her children in Madison. ~Hon. L. L. Middlebrook is attending the Annual Methodist Conference at Milledgeville this week. ~Commissioner of Agriculture, Hon. J. T. Henderson, spent a few hours of Saturday with friends here. ~Hon. James L. Jones, of Columbia, S. C. has been on a visit to friends in Covington. ~Rev. Dr. Jesse Boring spent Monday and Tuesday in Covington and Oxford. ~Mr. J. S. Lemons, of Cochran, has been on a visit to friends in old Newton. ~Mr. L. A. Cook has returned from Lisbon, La., and will hereafter make his home in Newton County. ~Dr. Frank McCalla, will not move to Covington until about Christmas. ~Rev. L. H. Harris will probably withdraw from the Methodist Conference and devote his time and talents to teaching. ~Mr. John Porter, of the State Technological School, spent a day or two of last week with “the dear ones at home” at Cedar Shoals. ~Prof. Robert Wright, of Elberton, spent a day or two recently in our city as the guest of his father and mother Mr. and Mrs. F.
