W. STEPHENSON is ready to receive your tax returns. See his appointments in this paper. ~The Negro, Seaborn SMITH, has been sentenced to be hung privately in Covington on Friday, May 20th. ~When Col. W. L. PEEK, grand cyclops of the third party brigade, reads his home papers he can feelingly if not enthusiastically, sing that beautiful song: “They are after me.” ~Messrs. QUINN & SOCKWELL are prepared to do all kinds of machine work at their new shops, near the depot. Give them your work, for satisfaction is guaranteed. Read their advertisement in this paper. ~Judge E. F. EDWARDS, secured the pardon of Robert HARRIS, colored, from the Governor Monday. Bob was sentenced to two years in the penitentiary for shooting at another, and has served half his time. ~Mr. John Newt SMITH is certain that several thousand dollars in gold is buried in the front yard of a Gum Creek district man, put there by an Indian Chief. Uncle John went up to dig for it the other day and was run off of the place by the owner.
