W. Spence has returned from a pleasant visit to Monroe. ~Mr. Ben Anderson caught an 8 ˝ pound carp fish on his trap in Alcova River, Friday. ~Mrs. Horace Thompson, of Atlanta, is visiting relatives and friends here. ~Mr. Robert Peek is getting out some extra fine lumber at his mills four miles south of town. ~Messrs. Butler & Lee have commenced to erect their new cotton seed warehouse near the depot. ~Messrs. T. C. Swann and E. P. Carr, left on their European trip Saturday. ~Mr. Richard Hightower, and family are said to be doing well at their new home in Jones County. ~How would Col. Emmett Womack do for Congressman from this district. ~Capt. Argust Boye will visit his Colorado plantation near Greely, Colorado, in the course of a few days. ~Hon. H. W. J. Ham, of Gainesville, and one of Georgia’s truest sons, spent Friday night here. ~Col. James W. Anderson was re-elected treasurer of the Weekly Press Association. ~Mrs. O’Keefe, a very charming lady from Atlanta, is visiting our city as the guest of Mrs. Judge Neal. ~Major J. F. Hanson, of Macon, has been on a visit to Hon. O. S. Porter, of Cedar Shoals. ~Mr. Paul Bleckly, of Atlanta, is visiting our city, and gave us a pleasant call Friday. ~Hon. S. D. Hight, the best looking widower and largest land owner in the county, attended the celebration at Oak Hill Thursday. ~Prof. Siferd, formerly of Oxford, but recently of Atlanta, left his good wife the other day and ran off with a bad woman. ~Miss May Agnes Bradley, of Monticello, is visiting friends here as the guest of Miss Mattie Carroll and Mrs. Fannie Boye. ~Mr. Charlie Anderson gave the editor a big rooster to use for turtle bait Saturday. Charlie is always kind to the poor. ~Representative W. G. McDaniel, of Carroll, has a bill providing for the taxing of dogs which he hopes to engineer through the House. ~Mrs. Mamie Selman Davis, of Conyers, is an applicant for music teacher in our public schools. She would make a most efficient and excellent teacher.
