W. Brown reports having had a delightful time in Tennessee. ~Mrs. W. H. Wells is visiting her father’s family in Oglethorpe County. ~Mr. Paul Bleckly, of Atlanta, spent Saturday and Sunday in our city. ~Miss Alice Dearing has been visiting friends in Oglethorpe County for several days past. ~Mr. W. E. Smith and family have moved from their country home to town. ~Jessee Watts, colored, with Robert Daniel, is said to be one of the best young barbers in Georgia. ~Mr. John Porter, of the State Technological School, spent Saturday at his Cedar Shoals home. ~Mr. W. B. Lee speaking of erecting two or three large brick store rooms in our city at an early day. ~Mr. George Davis, of Newton Factory, has purchased the Joe Penn plantation near Monticello. ~The side walk from Joe Peek’s store to Mrs. Spence’s gate is sadly in need of work. ~Mr. Levi Whitten announces himself a candidate for Coroner of Jasper County at the election Nov. 5. ~We learn that brother John Wright has invented a dog trap that never fails to catch loafing canines. He thinks of having it patented. ~We regret to learn that Mr. Henry Grahn and family contemplate moving from our town sometime this winter. ~Our Baptist friends desire to have Rev. Mr. Ivy now of Greensboro, to preach for them next year. He is an able divine and a most zealous worker. ~Mr. Charlie Dennard, brother of our Mr. George Dennard, has moved to town and is clerking in Mr. Joe W. Wright’s Everglade Saloon. ~Dr. Jasper Bryant, formerly of this county, and brother of Mrs. Judge E. F. Edwards, of our city, is doing well at his new home in Elberton. “Jack” weighs 190 pounds. ~At the close of Dr. Candler’s sermon here Sunday morning he called for $200, for Emory College, which amount was speedily contributed by several generous Methodists.
