T. Wells came down from Atlanta Friday night and returned Monday. ~Hon. O. S. Porter has been attending commencement in Athens this week. ~Mr. Benjamin Yancey left for Florida Wednesday, where he goes to practice dentistry. ~Mr. Robt. W. Terrell is assisting in the erection of the mammoth ginnery near the depot. ~Mr. C. H. White made a failure raising game chickens but he “gets there” on a fine garden. ~Mr. Lewis D. Pace, of Washington City, is on a visit to relatives and friends here. ~Sign up your guano notes for Esquire Franklin Wright so he can get to put his fish basket in the river. ~Mrs. W. L. Davis, of Rocky Plains district, is recovering from a serious spell of sickness. ~Hon. L. L. Middlebrook spent several days in Macon recently as a member of the visiting board to Wesleyan Female College. ~Tax Collector A. H. S. Davis had the misfortune to stick a large nail in his foot one afternoon last week. ~Rev. R. J. Bigham, of Augusta, who is honored and beloved by all our people, spent a few days here this week. ~Larkin Britt has the grassiest, weediest cotton patch in Newton County. Lark will make a good crop however, if the seasons strike right. ~It is said that Dr. Haygood will move from Georgia to Sheffield, Ala., to take charge of an industrial school for girls. ~Treasurer Henderson don’t bother himself about the high price of sugar. He uses honey with his black berry and peach pies. ~We had a pleasant call Monday from Col. J. W. Chapman, the wide-awake editor of the live and spicy Washington Gazette. ~Miss Mary Hargroves, of Newton, and Miss Price, of Jasper County, two lovely young ladies, have been on a visit to our city as guests of Mrs. James R.
