JAMES F. ROGERS celebrated his 28th birthday one day last week by giving a dinner to quite a number of his special friends. It is said to have been a most elegant and delightful affair. Mrs. ROGERS, the accomplished hostess, understands the art of entertaining, and is said to be one of the most domestic ladies in our city. Long live the Colonel and his interesting family. ~One night last week between 7 and 8 o’clock, a light was seen in the old Shepherd store, a vacant building on our public square. Mr. W. B. LEE and Mr. W. B. BECKWITH rushed in and found a box filled with shavings and straw on fire, the flames running up to the wall. Mr. Lee grabbed the box and by the assistance of Mr. Beckwith, extinguished the fire. The work was evidently that of an incendiary. Had the fire gotten under full headway it would have been impossible to have saved a house on that side of the square.
