Mr. Almand, in company with Messrs. Jno. S. Gleaton, James McElvany and Charlie Almand left Conyers on the 10th of Nov., for Cuba, to launch out upon a business career for themselves. They are all bright and energetic young men, and went, apparently under the brightest prospects for a successful career. Mr. Almand was stricken down a few days after arriving in Cuba, with yellow fever, and continued to grow worse until the end came. A Cuban Doctor was immediately summoned and as soon as possible an American physician from Havana was secured. A wealthy Cuban had the boys removed to his home, and all that could possibly be done in the way of providing medicine and trained nurses for Mr. Almand was done. Mr. Rufus Almand was well known in this county and Rockdale, having been in the fertilizer business at Conyers for several years. In his untimely death, the family have the tenderest sympathy of all in their sad hour of affliction.
