Bagby, nee Aycock Mrs. MARY E. BAGBY departed this life Friday morning last at her home _ miles below Covington. Aged about 78 years. She was one of the best ladies in the county, kind and generous to everybody, and her life had been devoted to making those around her happy. She was an active and industrious lady, and was always helpful and cheerful. She was a consistent member of the Methodist Church, and death to her was but the beginning of a new and perfect life. She lived in peace with all mankind and died with the blessed assurance that a home awaited her in the skies. Mrs. Bagby was born in the county of Oglethorpe, state of Georgia, in the year 1813, moved to Newton in 18_8, joined the Protestant Methodist Church in 1828, although she was ____ to the Primitive Baptist faith. She was married to Mr. Thomas J. Bagby, in 1834, and was a devoted companion to him to the day of his death, which occurred in 1862. Rev. T. J. Swanson, Pastor of the Baptist Church, in Covington, conducted the funeral services Saturday, at the home of Mr. Woody Mabry, laid in the very room where she stood 57 years ago, clothed in wedding garments as a blushing bride. Her body was laid to rest by loving hands by the side of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. _. M. Aycock, in the family cemetery, upon land that her father drew in his country for services as a soldier and officer in the war of 1812, before Mrs. Bagby died she asked to be buried by her father and mother, and that her funeral be preached in the room where she was married. Those and all her other requests were carried out to the letter. We have known Mrs. Bagby well since 1862, she was kind and good to us all those years, and many happy years have we spent beneath her hospitable roof and in her pleasant company. In life we learned to love her, and even the grave cannot hide her cheerful face from our memory. To write a full history of her life and character is beyond our power now. She leaves many dear ones here and everywhere to mourn her departure. She had raised a large family and among her living children are Messrs. Robert and John Bagby, Miss Sallie Bagby, Mrs. Alex Borders, Mrs. Harmon, of Social Circle, Mrs. Phirl of Atlanta, and Mrs. Aaron Kitchens.
