William B. Baker died at his home, in Bryan, Tex., on May 23, 1913. He was born on March 1, 1837, in Covington, Ga., where he grew to manhood, and was married to Miss Rebecca Eddleman in 1858, after which he removed to North Georgia settling near Cartersville. In October, 1861, he enlisted in the 8th Georgia Battalion, Gist's Brigade, C.S.A., served as first sergeant of Company A, and performed active service during the four stormy years following until captured, in July, 1864. He was sent as a prisoner to Camp Chase, Ohio, where he was held until the close of the war. He returned to Cartersville after the surrender, and moved to Texas in 1873, locating in Bryan, where he had since resided. He was a charter member of Camp J.B. Robertson, U.C.V., and Color Sergeant. Comrade Baker was a man of quiet, unassuming manners; but his ingetrity begot love and confidence that commanded attention and respect.
