He was buried with Masonic honors on the 16th. Kind, good and true for eight decades, his affections must have watered many an oases in this earth so hungering for such pleasure; yet his own life was so prosaic, so barren of those very springs of joy so readily found in this human hive of tumultuous, emotional blending of good and bad. The smiling and the kind word is gone from us. The familiar, drooping, nervous step will be seen in his usual haunts us more forever. His kind attentions and gentle words to the children will be sadly missed, for he was their friend. The Masons must have loved this kind, golden hearted old gentleman, who had for so many years been of this Mystic Order. Death had come, against whose entrance the Tiller’s sword can afford no defense. He sleeps. The gentle breeze fans his earthly covering. The sunshine and the storms will pass over the house, but he heeds them not. He fulfilled his destiny. “I heard a voice from Heaven saying unto me,” write from henceforth, blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. Even so saith the spirit, for they rest from their labors.” W.
