Boyd Dies Friday in West Newton Mr. William Boyd, 75 years of age, one of Newton County's best known planters, died Friday morning, Feb. 4 at 2:40 o'clock at his home in West Newton, after a lingering illness of several months. He was a steward in the Salem Methodist church, also a trustee. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Frances Boyd, four daughters, Mrs. W. S. Elliott and Mrs. Elizabeth Almand of Atlanta; Misses Clemmie and Angie Boyd of Newton County; one son, John D. Boyd Jr., of Covington; one brother, John D. Boyd, Sr., of Newton county and a number of other relatives. Funeral services were held at Salem Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. J. T. Christian of Covington officiating, assisted by Dr. E. F. Rempsey. Interment in Salem Cemetery. Mr. Boyd was a former member of the Board of County Commissioners of Newton County and very prominent in business, political and social relations. He was a charter member of Pace Lodge 558, Porterdale which assisted at the funeral, Hon R. P. Lester acting W. M. Funeral conducted by Joseph W. Tong of the Harwell Company.
