The Georgia Enterprise, October 8, 1891
     This venerable and true man died at Oxford, Miss., Sept. 11th. He was a 
brother of Rev. Walter BRANHAM, of Oxford, Ga., and a special friend of the 
late Colonel Newton ANDERSON. Our present Sheriff was named for the deceased. 
Dr. BRANHAM was born in Eatonton, Ga., in 1821, graduated at Emory College in 
1842 and at the Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, in 1845, and married 
to Miss Francis E., daughter of Judge A. B. LONGSTREET, in 1845.
     For more than three score and ten years he trod the paths of duties 
fearlessly, proudly and conscientiously as God had given him to see the 
right. “He knew no passion but the devotion to duty; he feared no displeasure, 
but the reprimands of conscience, sought no approval but the benediction of 
right.”
