T. Carr Geo. T. Carr, one of Covington's oldest and most honored citizens, passed peacefully away at the home of Dr. J. A. Wright on last Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, January 23rd. His health had been very feeble for years and for the past several weeks, he was unable to leave the house, having been confined to his bed most of the time. Thirty years ago, he was a leading merchant and business man in Covington. He did business on the West side of the public square, where Stephenson & Calloway are now located. After disposing of his stock he shortly afterward moved to Atlanta, where he made his home until two years ago, he moved back to Covington and has since lived with his daughter, Mrs. J. A. Wright. He married Miss Althea Wilson of Thomson, who still survives him. Of this union four children were born, only two now living- Mrs. J. A. Wright, of Covington, Ga., and Mr. J. W. Carr, of Tampa, Fla., who holds a position as ticket agent at that point. Mr. Carr is a brother of Hon. N. C. Carr, present representative of Newton county in the Legislature. The funeral services were held at the house conducted by Rev. J. R. McClesky, and the interment in West View cemetery Saturday afternoon.
