H. CHILDS, OF NEWBORN, SATURDAY The death of Mr. J. H. Childs, of Newborn, comes as a great shock to his friends over the county. Mr. Childs and his wife came to Covington, Saturday on a business trip, and while here, was taken suddenly ill, and lived only a few hours before passing away at his home in Newborn. The whiteness of the many floral offerings which hid from view the body in front of the altar of the Methodist church was typical of the purity of the life he lived. The end typified the courage of his heart which always enabled him to resist the wrong and do only that which was right. He was imbued with the love of his community, his state and county. All who knew him could truthfully say, "In all the storms of life he was a rock and oak, but in the sunshine he was vine and flower." He is survived by his widow and son, Capt. Robert Childs, of Fort Benning, and two sisters, Mrs. E. B. Nelson and Mrs. J. W. Pitts, of Newborn, and a large number of relatives and friends who mourn his passing away. Rev. G. W. Tumlin conducted the funeral services Sunday afternoon at five o'clock from the Methodist church. The church was filled with sorrowing friends and the many beautiful floral offerings showed the silent appreciation of a good and noble life.
