C. and Nellie Cook, died, June 29th, after a lingering and painful illness, at the home of her parents in Newton county, in the sixth year of her age. During her six years of life this precious child had won such a place in the hearts of her parents, playmates, and schoolmates, that her death could hardly have been borne if they had not had left to them the comforting assurance that the separation was only for "a little while" and that she should be to them, till then, a ministering spirit. The silence of her little voice, the stillness of her feet and hands, is indeed our loss, but Heaven's gain. As she was so obedient to her parents, so loving and gentle with all her associates, so patient during her last illness, we have a sure and steadfast faith, in Christ, that it is well with her. In that land where she can never know evil, in that land of light on high, let us leave her with the Father. She is a treasure laid up in Heaven, not lost, but at home. The friend that writes these lines, has read, that on a child's tombstone in England these words are graven; "Who plucked that flower? Cried the gardener, as he walked through the garden. His fellow servant answered: "The Master." And the gardener held his peace." A FRIEND Christian Index please copy.
