The Covington News, Feb. 7, 1924

  Mr. Calvin Cowan, a life long resident of Newton County died
at his home, January 7, 1924.
  Mr. Cowan from early boyhood was a consistent member of the
Presbyterian Church. He was a man thoroughly honest, amiable
in demeanor; a kind husband, a good neighbor and a good citizen.
  He was eighty-one years of age; served in the Civil War four
years and was a splendid soldier. He is missed by his many
friends. He is survived by his wife.
