R. L. Cowan Dead
  Mr. Robert Luke Cowan, age 69 died at his home in Oxford early Monday
morning after an illness of several weeks.
  Mr. Cowan had been a life long resident of Newton County, a devoted
member of the Presbyterian Church since early childhood and his chief
interest was in behalf of his church and civic affairs.
  Besides the widow he is survived by one son, Robert Edward Cowan, of
Covington; three daughters, Mrs. W. A. Turner of Atlanta; Mrs. D. S. Chesnut
of Covington, and Mrs. G. B. Malcolm of Social Circle; one sister, Mrs.
H. H. Evans of Starrsville and seven grandchildren.
  His remains were carried to Hopewell Presbyterian Church for funeral
and interment Tuesday. Services at 11 o'clock.
