Mrs. Margaret Pickens Cowan was born in Anderson district, S. C., on the 18th of December 1828 and died in Newton county Ga. on the 11th Oct. 1904. While Mrs. Cowan was in the bloom of her early youth her father Mr. Pickens moved to the county of Cobb in this state. After her marriage to Mr. Milton Cowan, the young couple settled in the neighborhood of Hopewell church of which her husband's father, Mr. Alexander Cowan of sweet and precious memory ______ _____. Here they remained and passed their earthly pilgrimage. For seventeen years the writer of this article was her near neighbor and her pastor. He therefore knew her long and well. She was in truth a model woman, whe was an obliging and kind neighbor, tender, gentle, prudent and unobtrusive. She enjoyed the good will and admiration of all her acquaintances. "Indeed none knew her but to love her None named her but to praise." She was deeply pious and regular in her attendance upon the services of the sanctuary and trained up her children in the ______ and admiration of the Lord. Her four children all survive her and deeply feel the loss of such a tender and loving mother. Her oldest son, Prof. John A. Cowan is well known and highly esteemed by all the people of Newton, C. Q. and Robert A. Cowan are doing well and show in their daily walk the fruits of pious training. Elzie, the only daughter, is the happy wife of Mr. Malinas Davis, of Rocky Plains. Now Mrs. Cowan having served well her day and left a name fragrant with sweet memories has passed away from her home on earth to her homw in glory. After appropriate services her mortal remains were laid by the side of her beloved husband in the Hopewell cemetery there to await the resurrection of the Just. Farewell Beloved Friend.
