DEATH OF MR. COWAN
  Mr. John Cowan, one of the oldest citizens of Newton County, died at the home
of his son in law, Mr. James L. Hays, near Hayston on Friday night, in the 85th
year of his age.
  Mr. Cowan had been in a helpless condition for a long time, and had to be
waited upon like a child, and his death was not unexpected.
  His remains were laid to rest at Hopewell church on Sunday.
