The Covington Star, March 11, 1885
     Old Uncle Billy Cox, one of the oldest Negroes in Newton county, died at 
his home on Capt. J. E. McConnell’s place, near Brick Store, on last Friday, 
aged about 95 years. Uncle Billy was an honest, Christian man, and was much 
esteemed by all who knew him. He was buried on Saturday.
