S. P. Davis Died Thursday After Long Illness. Rev. S. P. Davis, one of Covington's oldest citizens died at the home of his son, Mr. M. H. Davis here last Tuesday afternoon after an illness that dates back several months. For several weeks past his condition was reported critical and at no time since he was confined to his bed did his condition give hope of his recovery. Mr. Davis had been a resident of this county for forty-three years, coming here from Abbeville, S. C. in 1859. He had been a prominent member of the Association Reformed Presbyterian church for more that sixty years and held pastorates in South Carolina, Georgia and Arkansas. He graduated from Erskine college at Due West, S. C. in 1842 and in theology the year following when he entered actively into the ministry. For a number of years he was pastor of Hopewell church in this county. He was a gallant Confederate soldier, belonging to Company B, Fourth Georgia Infantry. He is survived by three sons, Mr. M. C. Davis, of Rocky Plains; Mr. E. O. Davis of Jersey and Mr. M. H. Davis, of Covington. His interment took place at Hopewell cemetery Saturday, the funeral being conducted by Revs. L. I. Echols and R. L. Bell, of McDonough. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.8 Kb
