J. J. DEARING One of Covington's Best Known Citizens Succumbs to Death In the death of Dr. J. J. Dearing Covington has lost one of her best and most prominent citizens. His death occurred Monday morning at 7:30 o'clock, after a short illness with pneumonia. Dr. Dearing was a native of Virginia. In 1853 he removed to Covington and began the practice of medicine, but shortly afterwards turned his attention to the mercantile and real estate business, and finally gave up his medical practice. He was successful in his mercantile business, and continued it until a few years ago, when, on account of advancing age, he was forced to retire, being succeeded by his two sons. Dr. Dearing had strong convictions, and his chief characteristic was the boldness and fearlessness with which he expressed his opinions. Strict and close in his business dealings, he was scrupulously honest, and unswerving in his devotion to whatever engaged his attention. He has lived a long life of usefulness, and his death has occasioned more than ordinary regret. The deceased was born 1823, and was, therefore, 82 years old. The surviving members of his familly are Misses Allie and Eugenia Dearing and J. M. Dearing, of this city; Mrs. R. L. Callaway, of Lexington, Ga., and A. E. Dearing, of Hillsboro, Tenn.
