K. Downs, an officer and member of this Society, was reported, it having taken place at 12 o’clock noon, on this the 23d of January, 1869; whereupon, on motion, it was Resolved, That in his death this Club sustains a great loss, society loses a peaceable and upright citizen, his family a kind and affectionate husband and father, and the church a consistent and devoted member. Furthermore, we tender to his devoted wife our heart-felt sympathy, hoping that under the trying circumstances she will not yield to despondency, but remember that she now occupies a new relationship to her family, and the world, trusting that she will endeavor to fill this station as she so nobly did that of wife to our departed friend, and to this end proffer to her any assistance in our power and within the length of our cable tow, that she may still from the productions of her farm, maintain herself and her children. On motion it was resolved that the above resolution be published in the Covington papers. L. F. LIVINGSTON, Sec. ************ The Georgia Enterprise, March 5, 1869 Tribute of Respect SILOAM LODGE NO. 99, F. A. M. Snapping Shoals, Ga. Jan. 24, 1869 Whereas, It has pleased the Great Architect of the Universe to call our brother, HENRY K. DOWNS, from this earthly Lodge to his Heavenly lodge above. On the 23d inst., at Oak Hill, He departed this life after a long and painful illness that baffled the best medical skill. As a husband, father, citizen and brother, Brother Downs was all which those important and interesting relations convey in the highest import. His worth shall be a constant monitor, inciting us to duty and encouragement. Brethren gathered around his cold remains and in silence accompanied him on his last journey, and brethren slowly and sadly laid him in the ______ appointed for all the sons of men. Resolved, That in the demise of our beloved brother, Henry K. Downs, the church has lost a humble, exemplary and efficient member; the Masonic fraternity a worthy brother; the community an obliging neighbor, and his family our sincere condolence, and point them in their bereavement to the Great Architect of the Universe, who is the widow’s and orphan’s Friend. And in testimony of our heartfelt grief the lodge and members will be clothed in mourning for thirty days. That a copy of these resolutions be transmitted to the bereaved family, and also a copy forwarded to the “Georgia Enterprise” for publication. H. A. BRAD WELDON WM. F. C. SMITH L. F.
