F. Edwards, one of the most prominent citizens of Covington, died at his home on Monticello street, Friday evening at 5:45, after a very short illness. Judge Edwards made a business trip to Atlanta on Thursday, the day previous to his death. He returned feeling in the best of health and apparently seemed to be enjoying better health than he had in months. He retired at his usual hour and was first attacked about eleven o'clock that night. He rallied after three hours of intense suffering, and rested well during the remainder of the night. At 7 o'clock Friday morning his condition grew suddenly worse and from that time on was in an unconscious state. He breathed his last at 5:45, Friday afternoon. Judge Edwards had reached the age of 60 years. He was born in Oglethorpe county, Ga., on the 24th of September, 1842. He was a brave Confederate soldier and entered service as a member of the famous Troup artillery. After the war, Judge Edwards came to Covington, studied law under Judge John J. Floyd, and has been engaged in its practice here ever since. He has held many positions of honor and filled them all with credit. He served the city of Covington as mayor one time; for eight years was the ordinary of the county; for one term he represented the 27th Senatorial district, and has been clerk of the County Commissioners for many years. Judge Edwards is survived by his widow, who was Miss Addie Bryan; his four children, Mrs. Minnie Fiske, of Grovetown, Ga.; Mrs. Ida Gray, of Woodruff, S.C.; Mrs Mamie Mahoney, and Mr. W.A. Edwards, of Washington State. The funeral services took place at the Baptist church at 5 o'clock Saturday, being conducted by Rev. T. J. Swanson.
