The Georgia Enterprise, June 13, 1889
     It pained us to hear of the death of Captain John H. Evans, which took 
place at his home in Florida, a few days since. He was born and spent a portion 
of his early manhood in Covington, Ga. He made a brave and gallant soldier, 
being a member of company H., 3rd Ga. Volunteers and by his daring courage and 
sound military judgment rose from 3rd or 4th corporal to the Captain of his 
company before he was 23 years of age. Peace to his memory and rest to his soul.
