B. FOWLER On Wednesday morning at about 11 o’clock, on June 9th, 1897, Mr. MARTIN B. FOWLER departed this life at his home in the city of Covington. Aged about 78 years. It appears that he was in his usual health and had been out in the garden doing a little work and came into his residence complaining of a pain in his arms. In a few minutes he grew worse and only lived a short time. His death is supposed to have been caused from heart failure. Mr. Fowler was a good and noble man, kind and gentle to everybody especially so to the poor and needy. He was a Christian gentleman, being an Elder in the Presbyterian church. He was a true and loyal Mason, who dealt fairly and honestly with all men. He was a public spirited citizen, a member of the City Council, whom to know was to admire and love. He leaves a number of children and many relatives and friends to cherish his precious memory. The funeral services came off in the Presbyterian church Thursday morning at 10:30 being conducted by Rev. T. B. Trenholm and Rev. Dr. Henry Quigg, after which his body was laid to rest in the family section of the city cemetery by the side of his wife, who died about two years ago. The floral offerings were abundant and beautiful, completely covering the grave. The pall bearers were: Messrs. J. M. Dearing, S. P. Thompson, R. L. Loyd, Geo. D. Butler, John W. Peek and H. B. Anderson. Brother Fowler will be missed and mourned by the people of this entire section. For a number of years he was in the milling business at Snapping Shoals, and from there he moved to Covington and built the large mills near the depot, now being conducted by Messrs. G. D. Butler and Edward Fowler. May flowers of beauty ever bloom above the last resting place of our dear departed friend.
