DEATH'S SAD ROLL
  It is with pain that we pen the lines announcing the death of Mr. Carter
Franklin, which occurred at his residence near Eudora, Jasper county, on 
Thursday eve. Dec. 30, 1886. At the time of his death this good man was near 
sixty years old. He was kind and generous and lived a life of piety and of 
purity. He was a brother of Mr. Alfred S. Franklin, of this county, and had many
warm friends in this section who will lament his death. May sweet flowers ever
bloom upon his grave. In life we loved him and in death we drop a tear to his
memory.
