H. L. GRAVES IS DEAD It is with pain and sorrow that we announce the death of Hon. HENRY L. GRAVES, which sad event transpired at his home in Brick Store District, on Friday morning, Dec 16th. He was one of the best and noblest men in the county. In war he was a gallant soldier, in peace a useful citizen. He was a man who never faltered when duty called. He never betrayed a trust, or proved untrue to a friend. He was a man of culture and refinement and was warm hearted and companionable, always having a kind word, and ready to do a good act by all with whom he came in contact. He represented Newton County in the legislature of 1890-91, and made an honorable record there. He was a Christian gentleman who lived and died in the Methodist faith. Major GRAVES was a man who loved his home and did all in his power to make those around him happy. But why dwell on the life and character of our dear departed friend, our people knew him, and it is impossible now to record his many generous deeds, or to tell of the virtues that he possessed. He will be missed and mourned by all who knew him. Major GRAVES had been in feeble health for several months and yet his death was a shock to his friends all over the county when it was announced Friday. The funeral services came off at his late residence and his body was laid to rest in the family cemetery on Sunday, in the presence of a large number of persons who loved him in life and in death will not forget him. Peace to his spotless memory and rest to his immortal soul.
