Thos. H. Greer Dead Rev. Thos. H. Greer, one of the county’s pioneer citizens and most highly respected gentlemen, died very suddenly at his home in this city on Thursday of last week with heart failure. Mr. Greer was born in Union, S. C. in 1839, and removed to Newton County when a young man and had been a resident ever since. He was ordained at Carmel Baptist Church, this county, in 1875, and received his license in 1882. Was an active minister in the pulpit for 23 years. In 1853 he was married to Miss Mary J. Hays and from this union ten children were born, eight of whom with his wife survive him. The funeral services were conducted at Hayston on Friday, and the remains laid to rest in the cemetery there.
