George, a pioneer citizen of Newton county, passed away at his home in the northern part of the county, after an illness of several weeks duration. The deceased was 80 years old, and has lived in Newton county the greater part of his life. He has been a prosperous farmer and has been a useful citizen to his community. He was a gallant soldier in the Confederate army. His wife and nine children survive him. The sons and daughters, who are among the best people of the county are as follows: Jim, Berry, Joseph, John and Frank George; Mrs. O. L. Byrd, Mrs. Henry Boggus, Mrs. H. C. Peek and Miss Octavia George. The burial took place at Macedonia church at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with Masonic honors, a number of prominent Covington Masons taking part in the ceremonies.
