J. D. Gray, winged its flight from earth to the Great Beyond. He died of abcess of the lungs, at Hawthorne, Florida, whither he had gone with the hope of bettering his feeble condition and improving his shattered constitution. But the seal of death was visable upon his brow even before he left his happy home, near Social Circle, for the mild climate in the Land of Flowers. Mr. Gray was the Presiding Elder of Oxford district, of the North Georgia Conference, and was a man honored and beloved by all who knew him. His devoted wife was with him when he died. Besides a wife, kindred and friends, he leaves five children to mourn his departure. At the time of his death he was only about 34 years of age, but had made an enviable reputation as an able and eloquent expounder of God's Holy Word. His remains were brought to Oxford for interment and laid to rest on Friday morning, 25th ult. We hear that Mr. Gray was a member of the Knights of Honor of Covington Lodge, and therefore his family will be entitled to $2,000 from that worthy Order. May our dear departed friend sleep sweetly in the solitude of his grave-yard home. On account of having gone to press when the sad news reached us of this good man's death, last week, it was impossible to give only a brief and imperfect item of the same. In life we honored and loved Mr. Gray, and in death we cherish his untarnished memory. Few if any better men ever lived or died than was he. Our sympathies are tendered to the family and friends of the deceased in their time of sore affliction and heart-rending grief.
