Harris Among the many sad deaths we have recently been called upon to record, none have caused more bitter anguish throughout the community than that of Mrs. John P. Harris, which occurred on Tuesday night, June 9, 1885, at her home in Covington. Mrs. Harris was a daughter of the late Rev. John J. Groves, and, like him, she was a most earnest and zealous Christian. She loved the church and the Sabbath school, and delighted in the service of her Lord and Savior. She was a devoted member of the Methodist Church of Covington, and consecrated her life to the church service. She was always ready to assist in any good work, and her noble Christian character shone in resplendent beauty throughout her daily life. There was no duty too arduous for her to discharge, or sacrifice too great for her to make in the cause of her Savior or the church. She was greatly beloved for her many Christian graces, and all are alike grieved by their great loss in her death. Her funeral took place on Thursday morning, the services being conducted by Drs. Haygood and Stone, of Oxford, and Mr. Davies, her pastor, when her remains were laid to rest in the new cemetery.
