L. Hays Mrs. J. L. Hays, a lifelong resident of Newton County departed this life at the home of her son, Mr. H. E. Hays of Mansfield, December 20 and was buried the same day at the Carmel cemetery. Elder George Goddard of the Primitive Baptist church officiated from the Mt. Moriah Church, of which the deceased was a member. Mrs. Hays was a lady of wonderful character and capacity, the wife of Elder J. L. Hays of the Primitive Baptist church who survives her, together with five sons, W. G. and eminent business man of Covington. Clayton and S. J. also useful citizens of this city, and J. C. and H. E. both of Mansfield. She also leaves one brother, R. L. Jackson of Hayston. Before her marriage Mrs. Hays was Miss Elizabeth Jackson. One sister, Mrs. W. E. Herrin of Mansfield and a host of friends survive to mourn her loss.
