The Georgia Enterprise, April 6, 1883
  Willis Alston Hawkins, grand-father of the editor of this paper, peacefully
closed his eyes in death on the 29th. He was in the 97th year of his age when
called to his last home. When a young man he served in the memorable campaign
of 1812. He was a Methodist and died in the full belief of that glorious faith.
For over sixty years he was a citizen of Walton county. For years he had 
expressed an anxious willingness to answer the Master's call when the summons
came. Kindsman, although he was, a more honest or conscientous man never lived 
or died.
  May he rest in blissful peace in his silent grave-yard home.
