The Solid South, Dec. 25, 1886
  Mr. Joab Hinton, an aged and prominent citizen of Newton county, died at his
home on the evening of the 13th of December. He was born in North Carolina, May 
17th, 1797. He moved to Newton County in 1824 and since that time has been a 
citizen of that county. At one time he was sheriff of the county. He was a 
good man and has gone to reap his reward.
