The Enterprise, March 28, 1884
  Mr. Thomas Hicks, a student of Emory College, in the Sophomore class, died at
Florida Hall after a brief illness, of Typhoid Pneumonia on Saturday last, and
was buried in the Oxford Cemetery on Sunday. The burial ceremony as conducted by
Dr. Haygood was one of the most impressive we have ever attended. The music
rendered by the choir was especially appropriate to the occasion, by which a
halo of sweetness seemed to pervade the large congregation that was in 
attendance. Such an exhibition of respect by the professors and fellow students
would seem to rob death of many of its terrors.
