W. Harper Dies Mother of nine, Grandmother of 37, Great Grandmother of 41, Great Great Grandmother of One. Elizabeth Iirry? Spead Harper died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. J. Hays, Covington, Ga., Wednesday, July 21, 1826. Interment at Mt. Carmel, near Mansfield, Friday morning at 10 o’clock. Rev. John Gresham, of Redan officiating with E. L. Almand, of Social Circle as undertaker. By request, the 23rd of Psalm was read and her favorite songs rendered, “Asleep in Jesus,” “Shall we Gather at the River,” and “Safe in the Arms of Jesus.” Mrs. Harper was the daughter of William and Martha Long born near Madison, Morgan County, December 24, 1840. At the age of twenty, she joined Sandy Creek Baptist Church, Morgan County, and for sixty-five years served her day and generation well. She was married to James Wyatt Harper, September 20, 1866, and in her eighty-sixth year when summoned to her death, she was the mother of nine children, thirty-seven grandchildren, forty-one or more great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, most of whom are living. None knew “Granny” but to love; none named her but to praise. To her countless neighbors and friends in Covington, it bespeaks her lovable, unassuming disposition, when scarcely a day passed without one or more of her former neighbors near Social Circle visited her. Mrs. Rosa Williams, together with Mrs. George Cox ministered faithful, loving service both to the mother and bereaved daughter during her illness and death. Her daughter, Mrs. Harp Hays, left nothing undone that could be done. Since twelve years of age, she has made all her mother’s clothes and shielded her from doing anything more than for pleasure and contentment. Her Christian fortitude did not fail as death drew near.
