One of them was named Bill Jeffries, but the name of the other we did not learn. They had gone to the mill, and while waiting for their grist, got in the boat on the pond, and concluded they would have a boat ride. After pulling out into the deep water, their dog swam to them and attempted to climb into the boat. In trying to do so, the boat was capsized, and both the Negroes were thrown out into the water and drowned. They were said to be industrious and worthy colored men, and their sudden and unexpected death is much regreted.
