JONES, and sister of WILLIAM, JAMES and FRANK JONES, of Early County, died in Florida one day last week. She was a most charming young lady, loved and admired by all who knew her. She was known all over the State as the “Second Daughter of the Third Georgia Regiment.” Her remains were brought to Atlanta for burial. Miss JONES accompanied the Third Georgia Veterans to the last re-union of the Hawkins Zouaves, in New York, and made friends and won admirers by her sweet disposition and gentle manners. Her father went to the war with the first company from Newton County, early in 1861, was Captain of Co. H., for a time and promoted to the rank of Major of the Historic old Third Georgia. He lost an arm on the field of battle. After the war, up to the time of his death, he held a position in the Comptroller General’s office in Atlanta. His precious daughter was the pet and pride of all his comrades and was loved by every surviving member of his regiment, all of whom mourn in sorrow her untimely death.
