JOHN W. LINDSAY peacefully breathed his last at his residence three miles from this city on Monday morn, 12th inst. Mr. Lindsay was a kind and generous man, loved most by those who knew him best. He was a good citizen and an honest man. He had no thirst for office, but prefered to live a quiet and independent life upon the farm, rather than to mix and mingle with the noisy crowd of politicians. At the time of his death he was 78 years old. We tender to the bereaved family, relatives and friends our condolence in their unfortunate season of sorrow. Peace, gentle peace, to the memory of our departed friend. This was in the March 23, 1883 edition of The Georgia Enterprise The death of Mr. John Lindsay, an aged and beloved citizen of Newton county, was painfully touching and beautiful, because of the peaceful and rational manner in which he died. Upon his death bed he summoned his loved ones around him and informed them the hour for his departure was drawing near and told each one present what he desired to be done after his demise. He begged them not to grieve or mourn for him, as he was ready to meet the Master whom he had learned to love and serve faithfully and well. He repeated several passages of Scripture, and spoke feelingly of Judge Floyd and other friends of his young manhood. When the sad and tender farewell word was spoken he folded his arms, closed his tired eyelids and gently fell to sleep to wake no more until the great resurrection morn. It seems to us that it is doubly worth the price of a long and tedious life of toll and pain to be permitted to depart from this vale of tears with no regrets, accompanied by the fond and blessed assurance that there is a better, purer world beyond the grave where eternal peace and rest awaits the tired pilgrim for all time to come. We are sure that Mr. Lindsay died just such a death. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
