M. Meriwether, died of fever at her father's residence, about three miles from town, last Friday morning at three o'clock. After funeral services at Shiloh Church, of which she was a member, her remains were laid away in the family burying ground at Oxford, Ga. Being about sixteen years of age, possessed of a fine constitution, and never sick a day, it was quite natural to suppose that a long and useful life was in store for her; and when the sad intelligence of her death was announced, her large circle of friends was shocked beyond measure. She was a pupil of the Georgia Methodist Female College, and was within a few months of graduation. So much did she love her teachers that, aided by a sister, she had secured a considerable sum of money to be expended in replenishing the apperatus of the College. Modest and unassuming, frank and considerate, intelligent and cultured, it required no close observation to see that she was an agreeable companion, a firm friend, and a dutiful daughter. She had a fine mind and a pure heart; and, girl as she was, she exerted a positive influence for good; but, had she lived, and attained that full symmetrical development to which her native ability entitled her, no one could have estimated the good she would have done. She was a general favorite in all circles; especially did her light heart and winning ways go far toward making her own home happy. No dying words fell from her lips; but no one was left in doubt as to her religious convertion. Her patience her gentleness, her deeds of kindness, her luminous life, all spoke the condition of her heart while she dwelt among us. To the mourning friends and heart-broken family, the sincere sympathy of the whole community goes out.
