MR. JACK MEADORS DIES AT HIS MANSFIELD HOME
Was Nearly Ninety Years of Age and Was One of Newton's Most Influential Citizens
     Mr. J. B. (Jack) Meadors was born in Newton County June 8th, 1829, died at 
Mansfield, Ga., August 3, 1918 and was buried in the family burial ground at 
Aycock's, _______ August _, 1918, in the presence of a large concourse of 
relatives, friends and citizens, assembled to pay the last tribute of respect 
and love to a good man.
     For fifty years he was a consistent and faithful member of the United 
Methodist Church. He was an intelligent and successful farmer. All through life 
duty was his guiding star, and always, everywhere and under all circumstances 
he did his duty faithfully and fearlessly.
     As a man and citizen, as son, husband, brother, friend and neighbor he 
lived a clean life and died the death that ever follows such a life.
     For four years he wore with honor the uniform of a Confederate soldier and 
no truer, better or braver soldier ever drew a sword or fired a rifle.
     After months of slow and gentle weakening and decline of his physical 
strength and vital energy, he quietly and peacefully passed over the river to a 
bright, glad, joyous, everlasting life on the "Shining Shore."
     He is survived by four brothers, one sister and many nephews and nieces, 
in whose hearts and affections his memory will live fresh and beautiful for 
years and years to come.
