After a long and painful illness he breathed his last at his home in Oxford, on Tuesday, June 5th, aged about 83 years. To pay an appropriate tribute to such a man would require a pen worthier than the one we control. His noble deeds and spotless character is engraved deep in the hearts of his countrymen, and no time, no place or circumstance can ever force them, for a moment, to forget or cease to honor his spotless memory. He died as he had ever lived, in the fond assurance of a blessed immortality and a home eternal beyond the grave. Idle words faintly express the silent grief we feel at the loss of our honored friend and valued citizen. Peace be to the last resting place of DOCTOR ALEXANDER MEANS, for truly, he was as good as he was great.
