He was taken violently ill, and in a short while after reaching his home was cold in death. He died of heart disease. Lewis has been in this county a number of years, and was esteemed very highly by all who knew him. He came here with nothing but push energy and good manners, and by his exemplary conduct and kindness to all, rapidly pushed himself to the front. He has been in the restaurant business here for a number of years, and there is hardly a man in Newton county who did not know him. He died in his 49th year. His funeral was preached at the colored Baptist church Monday morning at 9 o'clock by Rev. E. P. Johnson, assisted by Tony Baker. His remains were carried to Atlanta for interment on the eleven o'clock train. Lewis owns several pieces of property in town and a couple of hundred acres of land in the county.
